The Water Transparency Portal
With the Engineering Institute from Universidad Nacional Autonoma de México (IIUNAM) we are planning to apply a least cost strategy with the best short term effect on water accessibility and water quality, by investing into smart water technology (sensors, actuators, communication, central data management- and publication), which goes parallel to repairing the water infrastructure, but can be achieved much faster.
The project’s constitutes upon two main ideas: 1) Collecting and managing water data from a dense network of smart sensors; and 2) making this data transparent and accessible for stakeholders as well as consumers and a broader public.
The portal will:

-
address a broader public / non-scientists, water consumers
-
be the data hub that will visualize water data for anyone interested
-
host water data from anyone who wants to have their water data visualized (for information and social education purposes)
-
become a reference for water transparency and citizen science practices
-
promote consciousness for water
The data will be transformed into numerical and graphical formats that everyone can understand, just like traffic data.
The tools
The WT portal consist of 2 different systems:
-
Data Collection and Management System (DCMS): collection, management and analysis of water data
-
Data Publication System (DPS): for client and license management, visualization, publication, and user interaction
